So this is marginally serious but, Definitely awesome.
JUST, the most talked about Video ever produced by Radiohead, and they've had some Ephin' sweet vids.
Let me just preface this with saying I'm a huge Radiohead fan,
Best concert of my life,
But what I've always pondered is what does the man say? What does he say?
What the F*** does he say?!?!
Well after careful research and lots of hours doing things completely unrelated to Radiohead I believe I have figured it out.
Lets first stop and think about the location of this video, It's set just outside Liverpool street Station in the east end of London, which at the time was undergoing a certain Renaissance of sorts. At the turn of the last Century this was Jack the Ripper territory, they are playing an apartment I have walked past many times, just two streets away from the Spitalfield murder of one Anne Chapman. Now over a hundred years post Tom York and friends choose this location for their video.
There may be something to that?
So as I mentioned at the time of this video the revamp of East London was already in full swing with the head offices of banks being erected left and right, And this was the area chosen, Liverpool street station on Bishopsgate at a time of renewal, Now does this have anything to bear on the words spoke by the strange HOBO man who sleeps on the sidewalk?
Is that the theme?
Now before getting into what the real possible words could be, it's also important to take the stance that there may be no greater meaning to this video, But as anyone who knows Radiohead would say that is very unlikely, But maybe the impact of him not saying it is the value, he could just say " some guys down the street said he'd pay me for every minute I lay here and he'd do the same for everyone else."
To reference the director he himself said he wouldn't tell but that it would make you want to lie down, well I'd do it for money and I'd do it until I had to stop and not want to get up. Is that it?
Maybe?
The most credible Lip Reading accounts of the video all agree that In the video the man doesn't even mouth anything about what is making him lay there. The lip readers tend to agree that he is just repeating the previous line a couple of times, saying "you want me to tell you"
That being said there is no way of truly knowing what he was meant to say, so instead i will get to my theory, and crush it if you like.
If you notice he is looking up when he decides to lie down and again when he tells everyone what it is and they lie down.
What is the truth...?
well here it is? what if you just thought one day about what you meant to the world that you live in what if you realize that you are a piece of the puzzle that makes this word tick, that makes it operate, Pause for a moment and think about what would happen if you "JUST" were to lie down and stop being a cog in the wheel, what impact would that have on the world you were part of, would you see the importance of yourself in that word or would you be sorely disappointed in the lack of impact that you really have? how easily you were replaced? There is no reason to assume that what the man on the sidewalk says is a few simple words he may have taken a little more time to convey his Epiphany onto those around him.
What if he asked the question?
"What are you worth, and can you prove it by lying here with me?"
See you Next

I don't think he's saying anything with a meaning.
The meaning, I remember reading it somewhere and it makes sense, if you pay atention to the lyrics it says "you do it to yourself" and that is exactly what those people have done. The man warned them about the danger of listening to his words but they still insisted on hearing it, so they brought that to them selves.
PS I hope I was able to explaine it with my broken english
Interesting point you're giving here (BLGDNKY ?!?), I must admit it sounds right or at least possible. A point I must add is the fact the man on the ground and those around keep on saying «God» or «Christ» or whatever there is of the same meaning, that's why I tell myself it must have something to do with god. Like maybe God told the man to lay on the ground in order to prove is faith or he will burn in hell ? (to note that in the lyrics they also talk about paradice and hell) I don't know, I'm mystified too, but I think these are important details...
And Eduardo is very right remembering us the lyric «you do it to yourself» what does it mean ?

BLGDNKY - it's an elegant explanation, i love the video and the mystery - but from the expression on the faces of the crowd and the crescendo of the music, it seems to me that they have heard something deeply shocking and are startled by the reveal - something urgent is happening.
It doesn't fit for me that they are being asked to participate in a social experiment of sorts. For me, the mans message is a message from, or warning from god, to surrender, to capitulate to god, especially from anyone who might fear his judgement of their lives - because - from the lyrics - it "comes like a comet"
